Celebrating National Hospice Month
Every November, we take time to honor something truly special – the people who make hospice care possible.
National Hospice and Palliative Care Month is a time to celebrate the compassion, dedication, and heart that go into caring for those at the end of life. It’s a chance to recognize not just what hospice is, but who hospice is – the nurses, social workers, chaplains, aides, coordinators, and volunteers who show up every day with gentle hands and open hearts.
What Hospice Care Really Means
At its core, hospice is about quality of life – not the end of it. It’s about helping patients live fully and comfortably in the time they have left, surrounded by love, peace, and dignity.
Hospice care is guided by the belief that every moment matters. It focuses on managing pain, supporting emotional and spiritual needs, and bringing comfort to both patients and their families.
The Heart of the Hospice Team
Hospice care is truly a team effort – a circle of care that surrounds each patient with support.
At Anchor of Hope Hospice, our team includes:
Attending Physician & Medical Director: Overseeing each patient’s plan of care and ensuring their comfort needs are met.
Clinical Director: Guiding our care team with compassion and expertise.
Registered Nurse (RN) Case Managers: Providing skilled medical care, symptom management, and ongoing support.
Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA): Visiting patients daily with kindness and care, helping with personal needs and comfort.
Social Workers: Offering emotional support, resources, and guidance to patients and families.
Chaplain: Providing spiritual care, prayers, and peace for patients and loved ones of all faiths (or none at all).
Volunteer Coordinator: Matching our compassionate volunteers with patients who will benefit from companionship and presence.
Hospice Volunteers: The heart of it all – giving the precious gift of time, presence, and love.
Each person plays a vital role in the journey. Together, they create a web of support that brings light to even the most difficult days.
A Special Thank You to Our Volunteers
To our volunteers : you are the soul of Holly’s Haven!
You bring comfort through companionship, laughter through conversation, and peace through simple acts of presence. You remind our patients that they are not alone and that their lives still matter deeply.
Whether you’re sitting quietly beside a bedside, writing a letter, or supporting families through grief – your presence makes a world of difference.
We see you. We appreciate you. And during National Hospice Month, we celebrate you.
How You Can Celebrate Hospice Month
If you’re reading this and wondering how to join in the celebration, here are a few simple ways:
Thank a hospice worker or volunteer. A kind word goes a long way.
Share a story. If hospice touched your life, tell others – it helps spread awareness.
Become a volunteer. Just an hour a week can bring joy and comfort to someone’s final chapter.
Wear purple. It’s the color of hospice awareness and a beautiful way to show support.
In Gratitude
This National Hospice Month, we honor every member of our Anchor of Hope & Holly’s Haven care teams – the nurses, aides, chaplains, social workers, physicians, coordinators, and especially our volunteers.
Your compassion is what turns hospice care into something sacred.
Thank you for showing up, for listening, for holding hands, for caring deeply.
You are the heartbeat of what we do.
